Training in Ottawa

We've been home for almost a week now and have the luxury of getting in some actual training before our next race. We seem to be recovering well - no serious side effects from the travel or the first 6 races that a couple of ART sessions with Dr. Duane Smith haven't been able to fix. Next week we head up to beautiful Manitoulin Island where we'll be able to enjoy an extra long week-end, resting, training and visiting family.

We apologize for the delay in getting our race report up from the UK. It is in the works and we will be posting it over the next couple of days.

cheers,
Heather & Brian

6 down, 10 to go

Despite the fact that we're not showing official times, we both successfully finished the UK 70.3 today. We will get into details re the timing issue in our next blog, but wanted to put a quick post as we know some of our loved ones would be anxious to hear from us given that there aren't any finishing times to be found.

We both had a good day - it was cold, the bike course was extremely tough, and the run was a scenic trail run with challenging ups and downs.

We're back at our Inn, will wash up, enjoy a cold bevy or two then pack up as we have an early departure tomorrow a.m.

Thanks to all for checking in - we'll provide updates in detail on our next blog.

cheers,
Heather & Brian

'Allo from the UK!

Just a quick note as we're borrowing the office computer...

We arrived safe and sound yesterday, bikes in tow. We're staying in the small town of Porlock approximately 45 minutes from race site. After an adventurous drive to the race start, we've registered, taken our bikes for a quick spin and checked in our transition gear.

Now, with a warm meal in our tummies, we're off to bed as the alarm is set to go off at 3:30 AM!

All the best to those racing this week-end! We look forward to reading about your results when we get home.

cheers!

Home for a rest.

We are back from over seas yet our bags and bikes are still on their way!!!
When we checked in at the Swiss Air counter, they quoted us a price of $50 CHF ($50 CDN) for each bike. We reluctantly allowed the bikes to be checked in but were not happy with the fee, as we saw stroller after stroller go by with parents that were not getting charged for something that took up as much space as our bikes!
When we got to the "cashiers" desk to give them the Visa, she advised us that there was "mistake" when we were told about the $50! See, it was actually $200 CDN for EACH bike!!!
HUH?
With little to no other choice, we paid the $400 and were on our way! Well, it seems that shipping it would have been cheaper and faster! We are still waiting for the $400 bags!

Other than that, we are catching up on emails and race reports, so please be patient with us.
Our photos and videos are will be downloaded here once we get all of our stuff back!

Cheers.....!

Switzerland 70.3

Hey everyone!!!
Sorry, we have had very limited internet access here in Switzerland, so this has been the first chance to spend some time on the blog.
We got here safe and sound from Landeck Austria. We took the train and it was soooooo scenic!
We were picked up at the train station by our friend Simone who took us for a very nice dinner.
Set up in our hotel, we were done for the night!

Saturday: This was the day before the race, and we built the bikes early. We took the train to Rapperswil and found that from the train station, the race site was only about 1km away!
The entire race site was surrounded by a ZOO!!!! It was so awesome!
So, we got all checked in and back to our hotel.

Race day.... well full race reports will come, but I will say, that we both LOVE this race...it was like nothing we have ever experienced, and yes........2 finishes this day!!!!

We will drop a line once we are back in Canada......5 down, 11 to go!!!
